Baby Girl Born on US Air Force C-17 Rescue Flight

#Culture

Watch out! Baby on board! U.S evacuation aircraft C-17 Reach was ready for anything on this rescue expedition, except the birth of a baby girl.

Over the month of August, the U.S evacuation team has been gathering hundreds of families in order to ensure a safe evacuation from the current situation sparking in the Middle East. On this lucky flight, an Afghan pregnant woman went into labour and was taken care of by the 86th Medical group personnel. After experiencing a few complications, the aircraft commander decided to descend the aircraft, and take a small detour to stabilize the mother, possibly saving her and her child’s life.

Upon landing in Ramstein Air Base in Germany, a medical team helped deliver the baby on the cargo bay of the aircraft. As a token of gratitude, the mother found it only appropriate to name the baby after Reach, the aircraft that rescued her family. Air Force General Tod Wolters, head of U.S European Command commented, “That child’s name will forever be ‘Reach,’ and as you can well imagine it’s my dream to watch that young child grow up to be a U.S citizen.” Now that’s a story she’ll never get tired of telling.

The Five-Year-Old DJ

#Culture

Looks like we’ve got the next Steve Aoki on our hands! Five-year-old Miles Bonham shows off his impressive mixing skills on a new viral Instagram video that puts world-renowned DJs to shame.

In the videos, we can see how naturally throwing sounds and musical instruments together come to the musical prodigy. Click here to check out his Instagram, which is ran by his parents, and shows videos of the 5-year-old playing guitar, bass, drums, and mixing it all together to tickle our eardrums. Watchers can’t help but question at what age he learned to understand and master so many skills. I don’t know about you guys, but when I was five the most creative thing I did was finger painting. You heard it first at ABT, Miles Bonham is going to be a household name in a few years.

Carbios’ Works Towards A Happy Earth

#Science

Did you know that trees can help our plastic crisis? Groundbreaking and absolutely brilliant French company, Carbios, has successfully crafted a reactor to break down one of humanity’s worst enemies otherwise known as plastic. In our vast and massive oceans, we have 5.25 trillion macro and micro pieces of plastic, and in one single day, 8 million pieces of plastic make it into our oceans. Carbios’ innovation attempts to solve this problem.

In 10-16 hours this Carbios master invention is able to break down 100,000 plastic bottles. Funny enough, the solution to plastic pollution has been lying within mother nature all along. Their new technology makes use of enzymes from leaves to break these suckers up! Break it down, Carbios!

A Healthy Dose of Reality on Our Feed!

#Business

How many times have you compared yourself to Instagram, magazine, or even billboard advertisements of influencers and models? Probably, as most teens in our age, one too many times. Studies even show that there is a clear link between social media, photoshopping, and body dissatisfaction amongst teens. For this reason, Norwegian legislators have decided to give influencers and advertisers a dose of reality, creating a new rule governing the use of photoshopped images.

Norway’s new amendment under the country’s marketing act now requires that all photos, which have been altered in order to change a person’s appearance, to be labelled as “retouched”. According to the ministry, body pressure has always been a problem present amongst teens in the country, and this small measure is one of many which will eventually combat body pressure and low self-esteem in society.

Sports Bras and Snuggly Ducklings

#Science

Picture yourself on a walk around a calm, verdant forest, near a glorious, azure pond. It’s a mellow, sunny day and you’re thoroughly enjoying your little escapade. You decide to take a break near a pond and look down to find a frantically chaotic, abandoned duck nest. All the eggs are broken except for one that sparkles pearly white under the tranquil sun. What to do you might wonder? Well dear reader, if you happen to find yourself in such a scenario I’m here to tell you that you could nestle that little egg and nurture it to the point of hatching!

This scene in fact perfectly mirrors that of Betsy Ross; a woman who found a tiny lucky egg after a visit to a Californian park. On instinct, Betsy popped the egg into her sports bra to keep it safe. She did her research and found that the best option for this potential duckling was to keep the egg nestled cosily. As well scientifically speaking, Duck eggs incubate at a temperature between 99.3 and 99.6 Fahrenheit (37.4 – 37.6 Celsius), which is actually our own body temperature! Betsy Ross continued cuddling our fortunate snuggly egg and even placed baggies of warm water to raise the temperature. 30 days and one hatching later, a winsome, happy duckling was born! After the wonderful event, Betsy moved the baby duck to a farm, “He needed a place where he would be happy,” she says. One note to take from this story dear reader, don’t forget to cuddle deserted ducklings!
